The Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission, EFCC, has arrested three suspected
fraudsters: Nwabueze C. Nwabueze (alias HRM Ezeugo 1), his wife, Bridget
Nwabueze and Eze Izima Ngozi alias Engineer Victor who allegedly conspired to
defraud one Architect Austin Ilenre Emuan, managing director,
Gothic-Len Consortium Limited to the tune of N16.9m (Sixteen Million, Nine
Hundred Thousand Naira) over a nonexistent contract.
The trio and others at large are suspected
leaders of a syndicate from Obagi Community,
Ahoada, Rivers State, who engage in fraudulent acts, obtaining by false
pretence and impersonation.
The suspects’ arrest followed a petition
from one Architect Austin Ilenre Emuan, managing director,
Gothic-Len Consortium, alleging that one Miss Joy Mba Ozioma (now at
large), Nwabueze and others sometime in 2011 conspired and defrauded him
of the sum of N16, 900,000.00 (Sixteen Million Nine Hundred Thousand Naira)
under the pretext of awarding his company a contract for construction of a cottage
hospital in Obagi community by Total Nigeria Limited.
According to Emuan, one Ezeugo 1 who
claimed to be the traditional ruler of Obagi community connived with one Eze
Izima Ngozi who posed as an employee of Total Nigeria Limited to defraud
his company of the said sum and 600 bags of rice before the project was
discovered to be a phony deal.
