Singer-songwriter
Alicia Keys protested in front of the Nigerian consulate in New York City
Tuesday with the “Bring Back Our Girls” campaign, which marked the six month
anniversary of the kidnapping of more than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls by Boko
Haram militants.
Holding
signs that read “We Are Here” and “Safe Schools Now!”, the protesters chanted
“Bring back our girls” and “When do we want them? Now! Now! Alive!”, according to the Associated Press.
Ms.
Keys, who is pregnant and has a four-year-old, told the AP she was drawn to
take action because she is a mother.
“Today
is my son’s birthday and it is also making me stand in solidarity with all the
mothers of the Chibok girls who have been abducted for six months and are still
missing. And it is just outrageous that that’s going on.”
