After
its inconclusive FCT Congress on March 22, 2014, the Labour Party FCT Chapter
on 4th August 2014 elected Comrade Ashimole Felix Chukwuma and 19 new officers
to pilot the affairs of the party for the next 3 years.
Peter
Adejobi believed to be the chosen candidate of the National Chairman, Chief Dan
Nwanyanwu, stepped down minutes before election to pave way for Comrade
Ashimole Felix to emerge as the FCT Labour Party Chairman.
Comrade
Ashimole Felix, a lawyer, a former NANS mobilization officer Zone D, is the FCT
Coordinator of Socialist Workers League.
Monitors
of political activities in FCT believe that the emergence of Comrade Ashimole
Felix will rebirth the interest of Labour Movement/Civil Society into the
affairs of the Labour Party.
After
registration in 2002 by the NLC with the hope that Labour Party would be a
partisan wing of the Labour Party Movement, activists have shorn the party due
to the seeming lack of ideology and adherence to any principles as evidenced by
the brazen manner the national leadership of the Party trades off the party
platform to any politician willing to pay.
In
2010, Senator Andy Ubah was given the party platform to contest the
governorship of Anambra and less than seven days after losing the election, he
went back to PDP. Same is applicable to Ifeanyi Ubah the CEO of Capital Oil in
2014.
Prior
to the Anambra election, NLC, TUC and civil society organizations had protested
over the payment of oil subsidies to some companies of which Capital oil is one
of them.
