The
news of the entry of Ebola virus to Nigeria on the 23th of July,
2014, through the late Patrick Sawyer was devastating and scary. The way in
which the late Liberian imported the deadly virus and infected some Nigerians,
mostly medical workers, leaves much to be desired. We remember that the virus
ravaged Liberia and Sierra Leone under one month of the outbreak, but Nigerians
showed a lot of courage and commitment that has resulted in cutting back the
deadly Ebola virus.
We
wish to commend the Ministry of Health and the Minister of Health for their
commitment and endeavors that have given good results in curbing the spread of
the Ebola virus in Nigeria. The Ministry of Health has been outstanding in the
fight against Ebola virus. Thus far, we are gratified that the disease has
almost been cut short.
We
also commend the Lagos State government and the Governor of Lagos State, Gov.
Babatunde Fashola, for the effort his government and the medical team in Lagos
made to restrict the Ebola virus from spreading to other states in Nigeria.
Indeed, it was an effort that yielded positive results and is worth commending.
It
is important to acknowledge the collective effort of all Nigerians who helped
in enlightening the populace, disseminating information through the social
media and print media, and helping to prevent the spread of Ebola virus by
personal hygiene.
We
sympathize with the families of those that lost their lives while trying to
contain the Ebola virus. We will continue to see the likes of Nurse Justine and
Dr Stella Adadevoh as well as others who paid the supreme price to contain this
Ebola virus as national heroes and heroines. They sacrificed their lives for
Nigerians to live. They remained faithful to their sworn professional and
national oath. May their souls rest in peace!
We
are very optimistic that in a matter of weeks, the effort that the Government
and Nigerians have put in this fight will yield the total eradication of the
Ebola virus in Nigeria.
This
phenomenon has proven that Nigerian citizens stand above board in Africa and
that Nigerians are ready to support any good effort from the government to make
Nigeria great. We are proud of Nigerians.
Well
done Nigerians!
