Motivation
is a powerful force behind our activities or lifestyle. When it’s not there you
can imagine what life will look like. The West uses it to bring out the best in
their citizens, one thing lacking in our society even among our leaders and the
educated.
Here,
we criticise negatively in a way that dampens the spirit of the criticised.
Have you tried to find out what is going on in their personal life? We pass
through different ropes. Some have unresolved emotional issues in which you
might even help them out in your personal capacity instead of listening to
unintelligent and selfish advices as well as psychologically deficient
personalities.
Some
lack that psycho-intelligence that they give irrational opinions. They have
neither observed, thought critically, analysed to understand some circumstances
nor keep off the situation they don’t really understand. If you can’t help, why
make the issue worse?
There
must be the motivational factors or a force behind every drive in life
existence. Hope for future, job, good enumeration, love, marriage, children,
family and appreciation are some of them. In the other way round, when these
factors are absent; the environment becomes gloomy, there is no essence of
living anymore, the person becomes depressed or falls into melancholy: a
situation where you find someone unable to get off the bed in the morning or
find it difficult to take a bath throughout the day.
You
don’t expect a person to perform better than someone with good support, be it
emotional, financial or otherwise elsewhere. Naturally, we all need someone to
lean on at one point in time because of changes in situation associated with
existence.
Sometimes
you see a child build a device or show tendency to do extra-ordinary things:
there was a case, not too long ago, a boy of 17 years from Imo State built a
rocket that flew some distance in the air before burying itself inside the
ground (and other similar cases in the past). Before you know it, nothing will
be heard of it again.
There
would be no encouragement or other forms of support to develop this great
potential scientist for the good of the nation and the talent may die along the
way. If he has the opportunity of travelling abroad, he would become useful to
his adopted country because they know the importance of human resources. The
Steve Jobs of this world wouldn’t have succeeded if it were to be in this
environment. How then do we develop?
Take
another instance of when combatant soldiers defending their fatherland saw how
those who were cut up in the battle line were treated. May be their corpses not
searched for, their families left behind, and no heroic honour!
Or
the man at the helm pocketed all the money budgeted. Those under him are not taken
care of. This will surely affect their motivational level. In that condition,
you hear of soldiers scampering for safety on terrorists’ approach.
Have
we asked ourselves, why are the soldiers in America performing better than the
soldiers here in Nigeria?
I
once heard a song from a friend who is now an American marine singing he
wouldn’t mind dying for his country, America. Imagine that! What will cause
that? How far his second country which he now prefers has been able to care for
him within the short period he has been there after so many years in wilderness
here. He wants to pay back. It’s a subconscious thing!
When
you see terrorists kill without conscience, one couldn’t help but wonder what
is behind all of this! Is it a brainwash, the material gains, the forces behind
them or probably the hope that they will achieve their aim? Whatever, if there
is no motivational factor, they will give up.
We
should always care for our people. In so doing, the Nigerian project will
always be first in their mind. Even when aliens come in to sabotage the
country, instead of the citizens being used as operational tools, they will
join hands and make sure they are caught and brought to justice.
