Supermarket ‘workers’ pay tribute to Nelson Mandela with touching flash mob performance

There have been many tributes to Nelson Mandela in the past week, but this supermarket flash mob is surely one of the most beautiful.

Shoppers purchasing their groceries were left astounded after the Soweto Gospel Choir – many of whom posed as workers – emerged from the aisles at the Woolworths store in Johannesburg.

They performed Asimbonanga (We have not seen him), a call for freedom written during Mandela’s incarceration in prison, with many onlookers moved to tears.

According to Yahoo South Africa, the lyrics are as follows:

Asimbonanga [we have not seen him]

Asimbonang’ uMandela thina [we have not seen Mandela]

Laph’ekhona [in the place where he is]

Laph’ehleli khona [in the place where he is kept]

Asimbonanga

Asimbonang ‘umfowethu thina [we have not seen our brother]

Laph’ekhona [in the place where he is]

Laph’wafela khona [in the place where he died]

Sithi: Hey, wena [We say: hey, you]

Hey, wena nawe [Hey, you and you]

Siyofika nini la’ siyakhona [when will we arrive at our destination]
