World Cup qualifier: Ethiopia were 'cheated' against Nigeria - coach

Ethiopia coach, Sewnet Bishaw
Coach Sewnet Bishaw insists Ethiopia were "cheated" in their 2-0 World Cup play-off defeat to Nigeria, with a number of penalty shouts for his sides waved away.

A penalty to Victor Moses and Victor Obinna's late goal handed Nigeria a 4-1 aggregate win and booked the Super Eagles a place in Brazil.

Moses' spot-kick also came under dubious circumstances after Aynalem Hailu appeared to accidentally handle the ball in the area.

It was Ethiopia's own appeals that had Bishaw most irate, although he was quick to praise opposite coach Stephen Keshi.

"I respect Keshi; he has done a good job organising this team," Bishaw said. "But the ref cheated us. We had two penalties denied us. And then he awarded one wrong one to Nigeria. That penalty to Nigeria affected the tide."

Nigeria goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama believes the continental champions can make an impact at next year's tournament -- his third World Cup.

"We are happy that we have booked a place at next year's World Cup," he said. "It is amazing that we shall be in the party to Brazil.

"I have been to two World Cup finals in 2002 when I was picked miraculously and also at the 2010 edition in South Africa. This one is special because we are going to Brazil as African champions."
