WE CONDEMN THE KIDNAP OF MRS PRISCILLA
CHINDA, MOTHER OF OUR FORMER PRESIDENT AND MEMBER OF THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES AND DEMAND FOR HER IMMEDIATE RELEASE!!
Last
weekend, Mrs Priscilla Chinda, mother of the immediate past president of the
Public Interest Lawyers League (PILL) and currently member of the House of
Representatives representing Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency of Rivers state,
Honourable Kingsley Ogundu Chinda, was kidnapped in Port Harcourt by armed
persons who have since made ransom demands.
Doubtless,
the kidnap of Mrs Chinda, coming at the heels of kidnap cases reported by the
national media, adds to our damning statistics. And considering what has gone
on before in Rivers state, we fear that the kidnap of Mrs Chinda may not be
unconnected to the Rivers crisis. Lest we forget, Honourable Kingsley Chinda,
an ardent supporter of Nyesom Wike, who is currently locked in battle with the
Governor Rotimi Amaechi, has consistently opposed the suspension of the elected
executives of Obio/Akpor local government council.
While
no tangible connection can be made between the Rivers crisis and the kidnap of
Mrs Chinda, such evil can’t be put beyond desperate politicians who would stop
at nothing in order to deal mortal blows on real and imaginary political
enemies. Or simply get an upper hand over their political rivals.
This
is to the kidnappers and the security agencies. We demand they do what is
right: release forthwith Mrs Chinda to the embraces of her children. Whilst we
condemn the criminal act of kidnap, we call on the security agencies to ensure
the swift and safe return of Mrs Chinda to her anxious family.
Abdul Mahmud
President
21st August 2013
