Dr. Abdulmumin Jibrin, Chairman, House
Committee on Finance, will
deliver this year’s Annual International Youth Day public lecture organised by
the African Centre for Media & Information Literacy. The event which comes
up on Tuesday, August 13, 2013, in Abuja will be attended by a cross section of
Nigerian youth, including members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria
(NYCN), the NYSC, university students, politicians, government officials,
policy makers and members of civil society.
Hon. Jibrin, who represents
Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, Kano State, is an intellectual of
international repute, visionary politician and accomplished businessman. He was
until his election into Nigeria’s House of Representatives the Chairman/CEO of
Green Forest Group Ltd, a company with subsidiaries in Energy, Property
Development, Investment, Agriculture, Construction and Engineering.
According to Mr. Lewis Asubiojo, Director of African Centre for Media
and Information Literacy (AFRICMIL), “Dr. Jibrin is a young committed
politician and a visionary emergent future leader. He is a man imbued with a
passion to serve. His unprecedented achievement as chairman, House Committee on
Finance in the last two years in the National Assembly has distinguished him as
a new breed of politician with a mission
and vision.”
The event is part of activities marking the
International Youth Day and the culmination of a year-long celebration to
highlight the important role youth play in our world and in the life of every
nation. The lecture with the topic:
Nigeria at 53: The role and challenges of legislators in making the nation’s
youth resourceful and self-reliant will
explore the role of the nation’s legislators and the challenges they face in
their attempt in making the country’s youth
resourceful and self reliant.
The event will be chaired by Dr. Olusanya Awosan,
Special Assistant to the President on Public Relations. Also expected at the
event is the Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Inuwa Abdul-kadir Esq.
Mr. Asubiojo said AFRICMIL chose to focus on youth empowerment this
year because of the growing rate of youth unemployment in the country.
“Nigerian youth”, he noted, “can be self reliant and resourceful if they
receive the requisite education and support from government and stakeholders.
