Nigeria to face Mexico in U-17 World Cup final

Mexico flexed its champion muscles Tuesday with two goals from Ivan Ochoa and another from Marco Granados, as the team dispatched Argentina 3-0 and advanced to the U-17 World Cup final in search of its third title.

Mexico will meet Nigeria in the final on Nov. 8. Nigeria beat Sweden, 3-0 in the other semifinal Tuesday. In first-round action, Nigeria dominated Mexico, 6-1.

For Argentina, this is the only top world-level competition it has never won.

Argentina had a chance to score in the third minute when Sebastian Driussi was hit in the penalty area by Salomon Wbias, but Mexican goalkeeper Raul Gudino dove to his left to beat away Driussi’s shot.

El Tri scored two minutes after the early scare. Wbias headed a corner kick which Ivan Ochoa finished at the back post.

At minute 21, a free-kick from midfield was hit near the penalty spot and Ochoa was once again at the back post to hit home his fourth goal of the finals.

Just after the half-hour mark, Joaquin Ibanez was shown a straight red for a two-studded tackle on Omar Govea.
Argentina was reduced to nine men after goalkeeper Augusto Batalla was sent off for a professional foul.
In the other semifinal, Taiwo Awoniyi scored his third goal in two games at the 21st minute to help send the Golden Eaglets through to the final.
Nigeria their insurance goals in the final 10 minutes after Samuel Okon cut in from the left and hammered his shot low and inside the post. Chidera Ezeh added a third seconds later. The Nigerians are vying for their fourth U17 World Cup title.
